China’s Big Plan to Stop the Deserts! 🌵➡️🌳
Did you know that deserts can grow and spread? 😮 This is called desertification, and it’s a big problem for many countries, including China.
But China has a big idea to help stop the deserts from taking over! They’re planting lots and lots of trees 🌲🌲🌲 to turn sandy land back into green forests.
This amazing plan is called the Three-North Shelterbelt Forest Program (that’s a big name!). It started way back in 1978 and will continue until 2050. That’s over 70 years of tree-planting! By then, they hope to cover over 4 million square kilometers with trees—that’s like covering nearly half of China with forests! 🌳🌳🌳
One of the deserts China is fighting is the huge Taklimakan Desert, also known as the “Sea of Death” 😱. It’s the second-largest moving desert in the world! But guess what? China has built a green belt—a long line of trees—around it that’s over 3,000 kilometers long! Now, the sand can’t blow everywhere as easily. Isn’t that cool?
This year, China is going to a big global meeting called the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) Conference in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. They’ll share their green ideas and learn from others too! 🌐
China’s spokesperson, Mao Ning, said that they’ve already treated 53% of their sandy land. That’s more than half! 🎉
It’s important to protect our land and keep our planet green and healthy. Maybe one day, you’ll come up with great ideas to help the Earth too! 🌎💚
