Imagine watching an exciting ice skating race next to a real Olympian! That’s exactly what happened when CGTN editor Shen Xiang met Abzal Azhgaliyev at the Beijing stop of the Short Track World Tour in Beijing.
Abzal Azhgaliyev is a famous short track speed skater from Kazakhstan. In 2016, he made history by becoming the first person from his country to win a World Cup event in short track skating. He won the 500-meter race in Salt Lake City! 🏆
He has also proudly carried the flag for Kazakhstan at the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics in 2018 and 2022. That’s a huge honor! 🇰🇿
During the event in Beijing, Abzal chatted with Shen about the exciting new changes in the World Tour and the cool new skating suits. He loved the ice rink and facilities at the Capital Indoor Stadium. ⛸️
He was really impressed by Chinese skater Sun Long’s amazing performance in the men’s 500-meter race. Abzal said that Sun Long is very talented and can do many things well. 🌟
Even though Abzal finished fourth at the Beijing 2022 Olympics, he’s not giving up! He’s determined to do even better at the next Olympics in 2026. He works very hard and is dedicated to his sport and his country. 💪
