Chinese Skater Han Cong Runs for IOC Athletes’ Commission! ⛸️
Hey there, skating fans! Have you heard the exciting news? Chinese figure skater Han Cong is running for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Athletes’ Commission! 🎉
The IOC Athletes’ Commission is a group of athletes who represent all the sportspeople in the Olympic Games. They make sure athletes have a voice in how the Olympics are run. Isn’t that cool?
Han Cong, along with his skating partner Sui Wenjing, won the gold medal at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games. After taking a break, they announced they’re coming back to compete next season. Now, Han is also aiming to represent athletes around the world!
He is one of 11 athletes approved to run for two spots on the commission during the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, Italy. Athletes from eight different sports and eleven countries will vote for their favorites. Voting starts on January 30 and ends on February 18, 2026.
The two athletes with the most votes (from at least two different sports) will join the commission for eight years. They’ll replace two members whose terms are ending. After that, the commission will choose a new chairperson and two vice chairs.
It’s amazing to see athletes like Han Cong stepping up to make a difference! Let’s cheer him on as he takes on this new challenge! 🙌
