On Wednesday, 14 officers who work to keep people safe were killed, and 10 others were hurt in a sudden attack. This happened in a place named Tartus, which is in the northwest part of Syria.
The officers were on duty, helping to protect civilians (that’s everyday people like you and me), when the attackers surprised them. This kind of surprise attack is called an ambush. It means someone is hiding and waiting to attack without warning.
The Interior Minister, Mr. Mohammed Abdul Rahman, said the attackers were from the former government. The officers were trying their best to keep everyone safe.
