Oh no! An oil spill happened in Boston’s Muddy River, and many friendly ducks and geese got covered in sticky oil. π¦π’οΈ
On Sunday afternoon, people noticed something was wrong when they saw oil on the water. The police and fire departments rushed to the scene to help out. They found that the oil was leaking into the river and affecting the ducks and geese that live there. π’
Wildlife rescuers and environmental officials came to the rescue! They are working hard to clean up the oil and take care of the birds. So far, they’ve helped 20 birds, but many more need care. It might take up to a month before the birds can go back to their happy lives in the wild. β€οΈ
The oil spill seems to be coming from a pipe under a nearby building. Experts are still figuring out exactly where it’s coming from. They’ve estimated that less than 379 liters of oil spilled into the river. That’s about as much as 1,500 cups of juice! π§
Most of the birds affected are Canada geese and mallard ducks. These birds are a common sight along the Muddy River, where people love to walk and jog. The spill happened near the Longwood train station, not too far from the famous Fenway Park. ποΈ
Everyone is working together to help the animals and clean up the river. It’s a big job, but with teamwork, the birds will be back home soon! If you ever see wildlife in trouble, remember to tell an adult or call local authorities. Together, we can make a difference! π
