Hey everyone! Guess what? Singapore is helping migrant workers learn local Chinese dialects like Hokkien and Cantonese! How cool is that? ๐
But why is this important? Well, many older people in Singapore speak these dialects at home. In fact, about 22% of people aged 55 and above use Chinese dialects as their main language at home! That’s a lot of grandmas and grandpas! ๐ต๐ด
By learning these dialects, migrant domestic workers can talk better with their employers, especially if they are older folks who might not speak English or Mandarin well. This helps them build stronger bonds and understand each other better. ๐ค
The Center for Domestic Employees (CDE) is starting these classes next year. They also plan to offer special training in taking care of babies and people with dementia. Isn’t that thoughtful? ๐ผ๐ง
Not only that, but the CDE will provide free counseling and mental health workshops to support migrant workers. Mental health is super important! ๐ง โค๏ธ
Did you know there are nearly 295,000 migrant domestic workers in Singapore? They help out in many homes and are a big part of the community. ๐ ๐
This initiative is a fantastic way to build friendships and make everyone feel happier and more connected. Go Singapore! ๐ธ๐ฌ๐
