Hey there! Did you know that the United Nations (that’s like a big club of countries) is super excited about something? π
Antonio Guterres, the big boss of the United Nations, is really happy because the Chinese mainland and the European Union (that’s a group of countries in Europe) have promised to work together to fight climate change! ππ‘οΈ
Why is this a big deal? Well, the Chinese mainland and the European Union are two of the world’s biggest economies, and when they team up, they can make a huge difference! They want to make sure that a special meeting called COP30, happening in Brazil, becomes a turning point in protecting our planet. π§π·β¨
COP30 (which stands for the 30th Conference of the Parties) is a big gathering where countries talk about how to tackle climate change. The goal is to keep the Earth’s temperature from rising more than 1.5 degrees Celsius, which helps prevent extreme weather events. πͺοΈπ₯
Mr. Guterres is also asking all G20 countries (that’s a group of 20 important countries, including places like the Chinese mainland, the United States, and India) to make big plans to reduce pollution by 2035. He wants these plans to cover all kinds of emissions and help us move away from using fossil fuels (like coal and oil) to cleaner energy. πβ‘οΈβ‘
This is all part of something called the “First Global Stocktake,” which is a way for countries to check how well they’re doing in fighting climate change and figure out what else they need to do. πβ
Isn’t it awesome when countries work together to make the world a better place? Let’s hope they keep up the good work! ππ
