Have you ever imagined connecting with a civilization from 3,000 years ago? ๐บ
Meet Dong Yuanfu, a master of painted pottery from Turpan in China’s Xinjiang region. For over 30 years, he’s been keeping the ancient art of painted pottery alive!
It all started when Dong was a kid, molding clay toys just for fun. Little did he know, this hobby would turn into his life’s passion. Now, he climbs mountains to find the perfect clay, shapes it with his hands, and paints beautiful designs, just like people did thousands of years ago.
But with factories and machines taking over (that’s called industrialization!), fewer people were practicing this old craft. Dong didn’t want this special art to disappear. So, he began teaching villagers how to make painted pottery in training classes. ๐
By sharing his skills, Dong is not just making pots and vasesโhe’s keeping a piece of history alive for future generations. He says that when he paints with clay and fires it in the kiln, he’s forging the soul of this ancient art.
Isn’t it amazing how one person can make such a big difference? Perhaps next time you play with clay or paint a picture, you’ll think of Dong and the ancient artists he’s inspired by!
