Hey there! Did you know that one of China’s most populated provinces, Henan, is experiencing its hottest July since 1961? 🔥🏜️
Central China’s Henan Province is feeling the heat as a long-lasting heat wave grips the region. Since the beginning of July, Henan has had an average of nearly 11 super hot days! That’s when temperatures reach 35 degrees Celsius (that’s about 95 degrees Fahrenheit) or higher. That’s almost 8 more hot days than usual!
☀️ In fact, seven weather stations in Henan reported their longest streak of hot days ever recorded in July. Between July 13 and 16, temperatures soared to a scorching 40 degrees Celsius (that’s 104 degrees Fahrenheit!) or more in 131 counties and districts across the province. Phew!
But why is it so hot? Meteorologists say it’s because of a subtropical high-pressure system. Think of it like a giant invisible dome trapping heat and keeping cool air out. This makes the weather super hot and dry.
The good news is that relief is on the way! Starting around July 21, the heat wave is expected to ease up, and there will be widespread rainfall across Henan. 🌧️🌦️
To help people stay cool and keep the lights on, the State Grid Henan Electric Power Company is working hard. They’ve increased their staff on duty and are using thousands of maintenance vehicles and backup generators to make sure everyone has electricity for things like fans and air conditioners. 💡🔌
But it’s not just Henan that’s hot. Other parts of China, like Chongqing Municipality, Sichuan Province, and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, are also experiencing high temperatures, some even over 40 degrees Celsius!
Did you know? China has a special weather warning system with four colors: red means the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow, and blue. Right now, the national observatory has issued a yellow alert for high temperatures.
So, if you were in Henan right now, what would you do to keep cool? Maybe eat some ice cream 🍦, stay indoors with the air conditioning, or have a water balloon fight! Remember, staying hydrated and cool is super important during a heat wave.
