Macao’s Upcoming Elections: What’s Happening?

12 Candidates Not Eligible
Recently, the people who organize the elections in Macao announced that 12 people who wanted to be candidates can’t participate. Why? Because they didn’t meet certain important rules.
What Are These Rules?
In Macao, candidates need to support the Basic Law 📖 (which is like the main set of rules) and be loyal to the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR). This helps make sure that only people who truly care about Macao can be in the government.
Who Decides This?
The Committee for Safeguarding National Security checked all the candidates. They told the election organizers which candidates didn’t meet the requirements. So, the election organizers had to make sure those candidates can’t join the election.
Everything Else Is Ready!
Good news! All the other candidates are approved and ready to run in the election. The organizers are working hard to make sure the election is fair and follows all the laws. 👍
