Typhoon Danas Hits Taiwan, Bringing Heavy Rain and Winds

Typhoon Danas Makes Landfall in Taiwan 🌪️

Hey there! Have you heard about Typhoon Danas? It’s a big storm called a typhoon, and it just hit the island of Taiwan on Sunday night at 11:40 p.m.!

When it reached Taiwan, it was still pretty strong, with winds blowing up to 40 meters per second! That’s really fast—about the same as a Category 13 storm. But luckily, it had weakened a bit from a super typhoon to a regular typhoon.

The typhoon brought heavy rain and strong winds to cities like Tainan early Monday morning. Because of the storm, more than 1,000 homes in Kaohsiung City lost power, and there was even a mudslide in Taitung County!

China’s National Meteorological Center (that’s like a super weather station) issued a yellow alert, which means people need to be careful. They say Typhoon Danas is moving north-northeast at about 15 to 20 kilometers per hour but is slowly getting weaker.

From July 8, the typhoon is expected to turn and head toward the coastal areas between Taizhou in Zhejiang Province and Fuzhou in Fujian Province on the Chinese mainland. It’s likely to land there between the afternoon and night of July 8.

As Danas moves along, places like Fujian and Zhejiang are getting ready for more wind and rain. Meteorologists (that’s a big word for weather scientists) warned that even after the typhoon lands and weakens, it could still cause heavy rain in parts of southern and eastern China from July 9 to 11.

To keep everyone safe, the Zhejiang Maritime Safety Administration started a Level II emergency typhoon response. Did you know that China has a four-level system for emergencies like floods and typhoons? Level I is the most serious!

We hope everyone stays safe and dry! Remember, during storms like this, it’s important to listen to adults and follow safety instructions.
