Meet Joseph: A Peruvian Teen Passionate About Chinese Culture
Have you ever been so interested in another culture that you learned its language and studied its ancient books? That’s exactly what Joseph Cruz Soriano from Peru did!
Joseph started learning Chinese when he was young. He was fascinated by the characters, the sounds, and the stories behind them. As he learned more, he fell in love with Chinese culture, especially martial arts, lion dance, and calligraphy.
But Joseph didn’t stop there. He dove deep into the I Ching, also known as the “Book of Changes,” one of the oldest Chinese classics. For many years, he studied this ancient text and even translated it into Spanish so more people in his country could read it!
Joseph believes that Peru and China share many common values and a strong friendship. He’s happy to see more young people in Peru learning Chinese at Confucius Institutes. He thinks this will help bring the two countries even closer.
“I see so many cultural similarities between Peru and China,” Joseph says. “Learning about each other makes us friends.”
Isn’t it inspiring how Joseph connects two cultures? Maybe next time you hear about another country, you’ll want to learn more, just like Joseph did!
