Hey tennis fans! Guess what? Novak Djokovic just made history at Wimbledon! He won his match against Dan Evans with a score of 6-3, 6-2, 6-0, reaching the third round for the 19th time! 🇷🇸🎉
This amazing achievement puts him ahead of Roger Federer for the most third-round appearances in the men’s tournament during the Open Era. Isn’t that incredible?
Djokovic, who has won 24 Grand Slam titles (that’s a lot!), joked about how long he’s been playing compared to younger stars like Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. He said, “Nineteen times, that’s a great stat. That’s probably almost as much as Sinner and Alcaraz have years in their lives.” 😄
Speaking of young stars, Jannik Sinner also had a great day! The 21-year-old Italian moved into the third round with a 6-1, 6-1, 6-3 victory over Australia’s Aleksandar Vukic. Sinner played amazingly, hitting 38 winners and making only 11 unforced errors. 🎾🇮🇹
In another exciting match, Marin Cilic from Croatia surprised everyone by beating Britain’s Jack Draper. Cilic, who was once ranked No. 3 in the world, won 6-4, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4. It’s great to see him back after dealing with injuries! 🇭🇷👏
Even though he’s breaking records, Djokovic stays focused on the game. He mentioned that he’ll take time to reflect on his achievements after he retires. “I don’t pause to reflect, to be honest. I don’t have time,” he said. “But I think that’s going to come probably when I set the racket aside and then sip margarita on the beach with Federer and Nadal and just reflect on our rivalry and everything.” 🍹☀️
In his match against Evans, Djokovic had a tough start, missing his first nine break points. But once he got going, he was unstoppable! He won five out of six break points after that and dominated the rest of the match.
