Hey space fans! ๐ Guess what? The astronauts on board the Chinese space station have just completed their second spacewalk, and it’s super exciting!
The Shenzhou-20 crew, which includes astronauts Chen Dong, Chen Zhongrui, and Wang Jie, worked together for about 6.5 hours outside the space station on Thursday. They finished their tasks at 9:29 p.m. Beijing Time, with help from the space station’s robotic arm and a team on Earth.
Chen Dong and Chen Zhongrui were the ones who stepped out into space ๐. They installed a special device that protects the station from space debris (that’s bits of old satellites and space rocks that could be dangerous!). They also inspected and fixed some equipment on the outside of the station.
To help future spacewalks be quicker and safer, they set up foot restraints and adapters on the outside platform. This means that next time astronauts go out for a spacewalk, it could be about 40 minutes shorter! โฑ๏ธ
Meanwhile, Wang Jie stayed inside the station to support her teammates. The whole crew is also working on fun and important science experiments, like studying how things grow in space and testing new space gadgets.
What’s next? The astronauts will continue their amazing work, exploring life sciences in space, cool physics experiments in microgravity (that’s when things seem to float!), and even testing new materials and medicines.
Isn’t space awesome? Keep dreaming big, future astronauts! ๐
