Hey there, sports fans! ๐
Have you ever wondered how the Olympics could be even more exciting? The new President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Kirsty Coventry, has some cool ideas to make the Olympic Movement more fun for kids and teens like you!
On Thursday, President Coventry spoke about how important it is to connect with the younger generation. She wants to bring the Olympics into the places where kids hang out, like on TikTok and in esports (that’s competitive video gaming)! ๐ฎ
She gave an example about texting with her niece. Sometimes, she has to “decipher” ๐ the messages because they use so many new words and emojis! She realizes that to connect with youth, the Olympic Movement needs to understand and join in these new environments.
“We know that we have to find new, innovative ways,” Coventry said. “And I think this is also where we can use AI (Artificial Intelligence) to help us. There’s a lot of really good ideas on how to engage and what that looks like, and how we can do that across many different regions of the globe. Because it’s very important to reach everyone!”
Guess what? President Coventry is also planning to visit China in November during the 15th National Games in Guangdong, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and the Macao Special Administrative Region. ๐จ๐ณ She hopes to learn more about how sports bring people together all around the world!
So, keep an eye out for exciting new ways the Olympics might be coming to YOU soon. Maybe you’ll see your favorite sport on TikTok, or even compete in esports at the Olympics one day! ๐ฅณ
