In 2014, after some problems in Ukraine, NATO decided that each country should spend 2% of their GDP (that’s like a country’s allowance) on defense. But guess what? Many countries didn’t reach that goal.
Then, in 2020, U.S. President Donald Trump said that countries should spend even more—up to 5%! He even said that if they didn’t, the United States might not help as much.
