Landslide and flash floods hit Indonesia's Sumatra island, killing 16

Flash Floods in Indonesia: Rescuers Search for Missing People

Heavy Rains Cause Flash Floods in Indonesia 🌧️

This weekend, on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia, there were very heavy rains. These rains caused flash floods and landslides, which are sudden floods and when earth from the mountainside slides down.

Unfortunately, 16 people have lost their lives, and rescuers are still looking for six missing people. Rescuers are heroes who help in dangerous situations.

Mud, rocks, and trees rolled down the mountains, sweeping away houses and farms. Rivers overflowed, and many villages were affected.

In a village called Semangat Gunung, some people were hurt but managed to escape. Rescuers are using big machines and even their hands to search through the mud and rubble to find missing people and help those who are hurt.

Every year, Indonesia has a rainy season from October to March. Sometimes, too much rain can make the ground unstable, causing landslides and floods. This can be very dangerous for people living near mountains and rivers.

It’s important for us to be aware of such natural disasters and support those who are affected. Let’s hope the rescuers find the missing people soon! 🤞
