China releases new grassland vegetation map of 'roof of the world'

China Unveils Detailed Grassland Map of ‘Roof of the World’ 🌍

Hey there! Have you ever heard of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau? It’s called the ‘roof of the world’ because it’s the highest plateau on Earth! 🏔️

China has just released an amazing new map of the grasslands on this plateau, and it’s the most detailed one ever made! 🌿🗺️ Scientists used super cool technology like satellites and artificial intelligence to create it.

The team, led by Professor Wang Yanfen from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, found out that there are 62 different types of grasslands up there! That’s a lot of different plants! 🌱

Over the past 40 years, they’ve noticed big changes. For example, the amount of cold and wet alpine meadows has grown from 50% to 69%. This means the plateau is getting warmer and wetter. 🌧️🌡️

This new map is really important because it helps scientists understand how climate change is affecting the plateau. It will also help them protect this special place and its plants in the future! 🌍💚
