Australian Scientists Are Testing a New Medicine to Fight Tough Cancers!
Hey there! Did you know that in Australia, some super smart scientists are working on a new medicine that might help fight cancers that were really hard to treat before? 🎉
Cancer is a disease where some cells in our body grow out of control. One tricky protein called MYC (pronounced “mick”) makes these cells grow too fast. MYC is involved in about 70% of all human cancers!
But here’s the exciting news: the scientists have created a new drug called PMR-116 that can block the bad things MYC does in the cells! Instead of trying to stop MYC itself, which is really hard, they figured out a way to stop the processes it starts. Isn’t that clever? 🧠✨
This new medicine will be tested in a special way. Usually, people are grouped by the type of cancer they have, like breast cancer or prostate cancer. But this time, they are grouping people by the markers in their cancers instead! It’s like grouping superheroes by their powers instead of their costumes. 🦸♂️🦸♀️
The tests will start in late 2025 in big hospitals in Canberra, Melbourne, and Sydney. They will focus on patients whose cancers haven’t responded to other treatments. This gives hope to many people who didn’t have many options before. ❤️
Professor Mark Polizzotto and Professor Ross Hannan are leading this amazing project. They believe that if this works, it could change how we treat cancers all around the world! 🌏
So, let’s cheer on these awesome scientists and hope that PMR-116 becomes a hero in the fight against cancer! 🙌
