Three-day crayfish festival sizzles in Jiangsu

Crayfish Festival Brings Fun and Flavor to Jiangsu!

Hey there! Have you ever tried crayfish? 🦞

Thousands of people gathered in Xuyi County, Jiangsu Province, China, for a three-day Crayfish Festival that started on June 12. The festival is all about delicious food, fun music, and showing off the local culture!

On the first day, almost 10,000 locals and visitors joined a huge feast where everyone enjoyed tasty crayfish in a super lively and happy atmosphere. Imagine sitting with thousands of people, all eating yummy crayfish together!

One of the coolest parts was a colorful parade with hundreds of people. There were cultural performers, volunteers, and local residents all dressed up. They had Hanfu shows (that’s traditional Chinese clothing), crayfish-themed dances, ribbon dragons, and traditional drumming groups. They marched through the streets, waving and interacting with everyone watching. It was like a big party showing how lively and fun Xuyi is!

The “Joyful Crayfish Feast” is a special event that continues until June 14. So, there’s plenty of time for everyone to join in the fun!

Did you know that Xuyi is called China’s “Crayfish Capital”? It’s on the southern bank of Hongze Lake, and it’s famous for crayfish farming. Over 65,000 hectares (that’s a lot!) are used to farm crayfish. The whole industry includes aquaculture (that’s farming in water), processing, restaurants, online shopping, and tourism.

The festival doesn’t just celebrate yummy crayfish. It’s also a way to promote local culture, help the countryside grow (that’s called rural revitalization), and support sustainable farming. Pretty cool, right?
