U.S. Students Visit China to Build Medical Friendships! 🌏❀️

Have you ever dreamed of traveling to another country to learn cool new things and make friends? Well, that’s exactly what a group of medical students from the University of Chicago did! 🩺🌏

In April, 15 young doctors-in-training flew all the way to the Chinese mainland to visit hospitals and meet with Chinese doctors. They went to places like Peking Union Medical College Hospital (that’s a big hospital in Beijing!). There, they learned about different kinds of medicine, like taking care of people’s ears, noses, and throats (that’s called otolaryngology!), helping people with nerve problems (that’s neurology!), and much more. πŸ₯πŸ’‰

One of the students, Mario Shammas, worked in the rare disease department. He said, “Diseases can happen to anyone, no matter where they live. So it’s super important for doctors around the world to work together!” 🌟

Mario hopes that young people like us will try to understand different cultures and have less bias. That means being open-minded and friendly to everyone! 😊

Another student, Stratton Tolmie, spent time in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where they help people who are very sick. Even though he had only been in China for four days, he felt like he had already made real friendships. “I can’t wait to keep these friendships going and hopefully come back to China soon!” he said. 🀝❀️

And then there’s Naomi Tesema, who is learning all about otolaryngology. She said she felt so welcomed when she arrived in China. She believes it’s really important to build connections with people who like the same things we do! 🌈

Isn’t it amazing how people from different places can come together to learn and help each other? Maybe one day, you’ll have a chance to make friends from all over the world too! 🌍✨
