This year, the theme is “Universal Eye Health,” which means making sure everyone can see clearly. In China, a lot of people have eye problems. In fact, more than 1 billion people have issues like nearsightedness (that’s when you can’t see things far away), dry eyes, or cataracts (cloudy spots in the lens of the eye).
Even more surprising, about 54% of kids and teenagers in China need glasses because they are nearsighted! That’s more than half! 😮 So, keeping our eyes healthy is super important.
But here’s the cool part: technology is coming to the rescue! 🦾 Scientists and doctors are using something called Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help prevent and treat eye problems.
Wait, what’s AI? It’s like teaching computers to think and learn like humans. In eye care, AI can help doctors find out what’s wrong with someone’s eyes quickly and accurately.
For example, there’s a special system called “CC-Cruiser” developed by smart people at the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center. It uses AI to look at pictures of people’s eyes and figure out if they have cataracts and how serious they are. This helps doctors decide the best treatment faster. 🚀
In Shanghai, they have an AI system that helps check kids’ eyes for common problems like nearsightedness, crossed eyes (strabismus), and lazy eye (amblyopia). The AI looks at the results of eye tests and helps doctors find issues early on. That means kids can get the help they need sooner and see the world clearly! 🌈
