Wow! Did you know that the ground in some parts of northern China became hotter than 70°C (that’s 158°F)! 🌡️ That’s hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk! 🍳
On May 20, places like Yongji City in Shanxi Province recorded ground temperatures of 71.1°C, while Pingyao City wasn’t far behind with 70.3°C. That’s like walking on a giant hotplate! 🔥
But why is it so hot? Experts say that clear blue skies ☀️ and hardly any clouds mean the sun’s rays are super strong. The ground absorbs all that heat, making it really warm. Also, in some areas near the Taihang Mountains, warm air moves downwards, which makes things even toastier. 🏔️🌬️
Dry Times Ahead
Because of the heat, some northern regions are very dry. In important wheat-growing areas like Hebei, Henan, Shanxi, and Shaanxi, hot and dry winds are expected to blow for a few more days. 🌾💨
Farmers are working hard to keep their crops cool and happy. They’re using special sprinklers to water the wheat and protect it from the heat. 💧🌱
Cooler Days Are Coming
Don’t worry! This heatwave won’t last much longer. Starting May 22, cooler air is on its way. Temperatures will start to drop, and some places might even get cooler by more than 15°C! 🌬️❄️
Did You Know?
Scientists say that because of global warming, the Earth’s temperature is getting higher, and extreme weather events are becoming more common. That means more hot days in summer and possibly colder snaps in winter. 🌍⚠️
Stay Safe in the Heat!
Remember to stay indoors during the hottest parts of the day. Drink plenty of water, even if you don’t feel thirsty. Avoid going outside when it’s super hot, and keep cool to prevent heatstroke. 🏠💦
