Hey there! Did you hear the exciting news? 📰 China has started a special scientific expedition to explore the glaciers at the very beginning of the Yellow River! 🌊❄️
The Yellow River is China’s second-longest river, and it all starts high up in the mountains of Qinghai Province, at a place called Mount Anyemaqen. 🏔️ This mountain is super important because it’s covered with more than 40 glaciers! Glaciers are like giant frozen rivers of ice, and they provide water to the rivers and lakes below.
Scientists are hiking up to these glaciers to see how they are changing because of climate change. 🌍🌡️ With the Earth getting warmer, the ice in the glaciers is melting faster. This can cause the glaciers to shrink, and even lead to ice avalanches! 😮
Professor Hou Guangliang from Qinghai Normal University says they’re noticing that the glaciers are getting smaller and moving back up the mountain. By studying these changes, the scientists hope to find ways to protect the river and the animals and plants that rely on it. 🐟🌿
