Hey there! Do you know how sometimes things cost more than they used to? π Well, in the United States, something called tariffs are making that happen. Tariffs are like taxes on stuff coming into a country from other places.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which speaks up for many businesses, is worried that these tariffs are hurting small businesses and families. They sent a letter to the government leaders asking for help. They said that higher costs and problems getting supplies are making it hard for small companies to keep going.
Imagine your favorite toy store can’t get the toys you love because it’s too expensive to bring them in. Or your family has to pay more for things like coffee or bananas because they can’t be grown in the U.S. π΄πβ
Suzanne Clark, the leader of the Chamber, said that raising prices on things we can’t make at home will only make it harder for families who are already trying to save money. That’s why they are asking for some of these taxes to be taken away, especially for small businesses.
The Chamber wants the government to:
- Automatically exclude small businesses from these tariffs.
- Let companies ask for an exclusion if tariffs might make them cut jobs.
- Exclude products that can’t be made or found easily in the U.S.
By doing this, they hope to help small businesses stay open and keep prices fair for everyone. π
