On Wednesday, big wildfires broke out near Jerusalem in Israel. These fires were caused by extreme heat and strong winds. Because of the dangerous fires, people had to leave their homes, and some roads were closed.

This happened on Israel’s Memorial Day, a day when many people visit cemeteries to remember loved ones. The fires made it hard for people to travel safely.

Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, said that the wildfires are a “national emergency.” Firefighters are working very hard to stop the fires. They have many fire trucks, airplanes, and helicopters helping out.

Some roads, like the main highway between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, had to be closed near the fire area. The police also evacuated three communities to keep people safe.

The fire service told everyone not to light bonfires until after May 7th because the weather is very hot and dry, which makes fires spread easily. This is important because Israel’s 77th Independence Day starts on Thursday night, and many people like to have barbecues and bonfires to celebrate. The fire service said it’s okay to have barbecues in safe, approved areas.

Other countries are helping too! Israel has asked Greece, Bulgaria, Croatia, Italy, and Cyprus for help to fight the fires. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) are also helping firefighters and police. They are using special search and rescue teams and even Air Force fire trucks to fight the fires and help people.

So far, 12 people have been hurt from breathing in smoke, but everyone is working together to keep people safe and stop the fires.
