Have you ever imagined having two completely different jobs? Well, meet Gao Yifeng! By day, Gao works in an office like many adults. But on weekends, he becomes DJ Funkie, bringing energy and fun to the dance floor! ๐
Gao loves both his jobs. He says, “Being a DJ is all about making people happy.” As DJ Funkie, he plays music that gets everyone dancing. But he doesn’t just play any songs. He mixes in special tunes from Cantonese pop music, especially from the 80s and 90s! ๐ต
Before becoming a DJ, Gao worked in the music industry, listening to thousands of albums. That’s a lot of music! ๐ง He loved it so much that he decided to start DJ-ing himself. In 2020, he even started a podcast where he talks about music, food, and culture from Cantonese-speaking regions.
“I dive into music, food, transportation, and record stores โ it’s a mix of culture and sound,” Gao says. Through his podcast and DJ sets, he shares stories and connects with people. He believes that music isn’t just about beats; it’s about storytelling and bringing people together.
One time, at a party, Gao played a song by Alan Tam, a famous singer from the 80s. A young guy told him, “My dad loves this song and plays it at home!” It made Gao happy to see different generations enjoying the same music.
Even though his office job and DJ life are very different, Gao feels that his passion for music makes everything more exciting. “It’s my way to tell stories and connect with others,” he says. ๐
So next time you’re dancing to your favorite song, remember people like Gao who make the music come alive! Maybe you, too, can find something you’re passionate about and share it with the world. ๐
