Big Earthquake Shakes Near Istanbul: Teams Check for Damage

An Earthquake Shook Near Istanbul Today 🌍

Hey everyone! Have you heard? A big earthquake happened near Istanbul, the largest city in Türkiye, today.

At 12:49 p.m. local time, the ground started shaking in the Silivri district, which is on the European side of Istanbul. The earthquake measured magnitude 6.2. That’s pretty strong!

But what does magnitude 6.2 mean? 🤔 Well, the magnitude tells us how strong an earthquake is. The higher the number, the stronger the quake. An earthquake between 6.0 and 6.9 is considered strong and can cause damage to buildings.

After the main earthquake, there were two smaller shakes called aftershocks. They measured 4.4 and 4.9 in magnitude.

The authorities, including Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, said that teams have been sent out quickly to check for any damage and to help people if needed.

We hope everyone stays safe! Remember, earthquakes can be scary, but knowing what to do can help. Do you know what to do during an earthquake? 🤔
