WHO warns funding cuts threaten maternal, newborn health in Africa

WHO: Funding Cuts Put Moms and Babies in Africa at Risk πŸš‘

WHO Says Cuts in Health Funding Could Harm Moms and Babies in Africa

Hey everyone! Have you ever thought about how important doctors and nurses are for moms and newborn babies? 🌍 Well, the World Health Organization (WHO) is worried that there isn’t enough money to help them in Africa.

On World Health Day, people gathered in Gaborone, the capital of Botswana. There, Juliet Bataringaya from the WHO said that without enough funding, hospitals and clinics can’t help as many people. This is especially hard for moms and their new babies. πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘Ά

In Botswana, for every 100,000 babies born, about 175 moms sadly don’t survive. 😒 The WHO wants to lower this number to 70 by 2030. That means we need to help more moms stay healthy!

Botswana’s Acting Minister of Health, Lawrence Ookeditse, said it’s important to help moms before and after they have their babies. This includes things like making sure they see a doctor during pregnancy, have safe places to give birth, and can get tests for diseases like HIV. πŸ₯

But there’s a problem! πŸ›‘ With less money from around the world, it’s harder to provide these important services. That’s why people are saying we need to keep investing in health care, so moms and babies can be safe and healthy.

The theme for World Health Day’s 2025 campaign is “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures.” Let’s all learn about why it’s important to support health services for everyone! ❀️
