Over the weekend, hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets in the United States and Europe to protest against some of President Donald Trump’s policies. ๐บ๐ธ๐ช๐บ
What’s Going On?
In the U.S., around 600,000 people gathered in all 50 states for more than 1,400 protests! That’s like the whole population of a big city standing up together. The theme of the protests was “Hands Off,” and lots of different groups came together, like teachers, nurses, students, and parents. โ
People are upset about things like new tariffs (that’s a tax on goods from other countries), government shutdowns, and the treatment of immigrants. They want their voices to be heard and are asking for changes.
Protests Around the World
It wasn’t just in the U.S.! In Europe, people in cities like Berlin, Paris, London, and Lisbon also held protests. In London, crowds gathered at Trafalgar Square, holding signs and chanting messages. ๐
Why Are People Protesting?
One big reason is because of new tariffs that President Trump announced. Tariffs make it more expensive to buy things from other countries. Many people, including leaders from other nations, worry that these tariffs could hurt the global economy.
For example, Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, said that these tariffs are “a major blow to the world economy.” She thinks they could make things harder for people all around the world.
What Do the Protesters Want?
The protesters are asking for fairness, kindness, and cooperation between countries. They believe that working together is better than putting up barriers. They hope that their voices will encourage leaders to make positive changes.
Did You Know?
Protesting is a way for people to express their opinions and stand up for what they believe in. In many countries, peaceful protests are an important part of democracy. โ
Looking Ahead
It’s important to pay attention to what’s happening in the world and think about how decisions affect everyone. Even though you’re young, learning about these events helps you understand the world better!
