Six Science Superstars Honored at ICBS 2025 ๐ŸŽ‰

Hey there, science fans! Guess what? Six amazing scientists were celebrated at the International Congress of Basic Science (ICBS) 2025 for their super cool discoveries! ๐Ÿš€

At a big event held at Tsinghua University, these brilliant minds received the Basic Science Lifetime Awards. Let’s meet them!

For Mathematics ๐Ÿงฎ:

  • Professor Shigefumi Mori from Kyoto University.
He did awesome work in algebraic geometry. It’s like exploring the shapes and spaces we can make with numbers!
  • Professor George Lusztig from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
He made big discoveries in something called representation theory. It’s all about understanding how mathematical objects can “act out” in different ways.

For Physics ๐Ÿ”ฌ:

  • Professor David Jonathan Gross from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
He discovered “asymptotic freedom,” which helps us understand the tiniest particles in the universe!
  • Professor Samuel Chao Chung Ting from MIT.
He found a new particle called the J/ฯˆ meson and leads cool space experiments!

For Information Science and Engineering ๐Ÿ’ป:

  • Professor Steven Chu from Stanford University.
He made big contributions to atomic physics and even worked on energy innovations!
  • Professor Robert Endre Tarjan from Princeton University.
He invented new ways to sort and organize data, which helps computers work faster!

These scientists have been making the world a better place with their discoveries for over 30 years! Isn’t that inspiring? ๐ŸŒŸ

The ICBS started giving out these special awards in 2023 to honor such amazing people in basic scienceโ€”things like math, physics, and computer science that help us understand the world.

The 2025 ICBS event will happen in July. Last year, in 2024, nearly 1,000 top scientists from over 40 countries and regions joined in! There were over 500 cool presentations, and over 5 million people watched online and in person! That’s a lot of science lovers! ๐ŸŒ

Maybe one day, you could be one of these science superstars too! Keep exploring and never stop asking questions! ๐Ÿ”
