Have you ever wondered how your voice can make a difference? In Shanghai’s Hongqiao neighborhood, a community leader named Sheng Hong is showing everyone how! 😊
One day, a visitor from another country was walking through the community center. He saw photos on the walls and was surprised. “Wait, China’s national leaders actually work here, right in the community?” he exclaimed. Sheng smiled, knowing that this is what “whole-process people’s democracy” is all about.
But what does that mean? Well, Sheng is a deputy to China’s national legislative body, which means she helps make important decisions for the country. But she doesn’t just work in a big building in Beijing. She spends most of her time right in her neighborhood, talking to people like you and me! 🏠
“Democracy is happening every day when we solve problems together,” Sheng says. For over 14 years, she has been helping her neighbors with all sorts of things, like fixing disputes and making the community a better place to live.
Hongqiao is a special place with over 87,000 residents from 50 different countries! It’s like a little world all in one neighborhood. In just one year, they had 510 visiting groups, including 55 from other countries. 🌍
Many visitors are amazed at how easy it is to meet and talk with leaders like Sheng. They often say, “Wow, China’s leaders are so connected to the people!” That makes Sheng feel proud of her work.
“Sharing how we do things here with the world makes me so happy,” she says. “Everyone’s voice matters, and together we can make our community and country better!” 💖
