Hey there! π£ Did you hear about the students in Xizang who just started their new school semester after a big earthquake shook their homes? Let’s find out how these brave kids are getting back to class! π«
Two months ago, a strong earthquake hit Dingri County in Xigaze, a city in the Xizang Autonomous Region of China. The earthquake was really powerfulβit was a 6.8 magnitude quake! π As you can imagine, it caused a lot of damage to buildings, including schools, and many people were affected.
But guess what? This week, thousands of students are heading back to school! π Even though 79 schools were damaged, workers and builders worked super hard to fix them up in time for the new semester. Out of those schools, 76 have been repaired and are safe for students to return.
There are still three schools that need to be completely rebuilt because they were seriously damaged. But that didn’t stop the students! About 1,479 kids from those schools have been moved to other places so they can keep learning. One of these places is the county’s Party school, which opened up classrooms just for them. Isn’t that great? π
One student named Pasang Tsering, who’s in sixth grade, said, “We were given not only new textbooks but also backpacks, bedding, and stationery!” π That’s a lot of helpful supplies to get started.
Teachers are also doing their part. They came back to school early to help clean up and get everything ready. They’re also going to provide extra support to help students feel better after the earthquake. Sometimes, big events like this can be scary, so it’s important to talk about our feelings. π
Not only are schools being fixed, but eight villages are also starting to rebuild. The goal is to help over 120,000 people get new homes by the end of this year! π
It’s amazing to see how everyone is working together to help their community. These students are showing that even after something tough happens, you can bounce back and keep moving forward. Way to go, Xizang! π
