Washington, D.C. – A big meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was canceled after the two leaders had a heated argument in the Oval Office on February 28, 2025. The meeting was supposed to be about signing the U.S.-Ukraine minerals deal.
After the unexpected disagreement, reporters from around the world were surprised. CGTN Stringer went to the streets of Kyiv, Ukraine, to talk to local people about how they felt.
“I agree with President Zelenskyy,” said Oleksandr, a resident of Kyiv. “Many Ukrainians have lost their homes and lives in the war. If President Trump wants to help stop the war, he should listen to our president and understand what we’re going through.”
Many young people in Ukraine hope for peace and wish that leaders can work together to end conflicts. The canceled meeting has made some people worried, but others still believe that things can get better.
