Hey everyone! π’ Did you hear the big news? The United Nations Security Council had an important meeting on Monday. They all got together and agreed on something super important: they want peace between Russia and Ukraine! ποΈ
For the past three years, there’s been a conflict between Russia and Ukraine. That means they’ve been in disagreement and sometimes fighting, which is really sad because lots of people have been affected. π
The United Nations Security Council is a group of countries that work together to keep the world safe and peaceful. They voted on a resolution (that’s like a special agreement) that was written by the United States. This resolution asks for the fighting to stop quickly and hopes for lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine. πβ€οΈ
Out of 15 members, 10 countries voted “yes” to the resolution, including China, the U.S., and Russia. Isn’t it cool that they agreed on this? π€ Some countries like France, Britain, Denmark, Greece, and Slovenia didn’t vote “yes” or “no” β they abstained, which means they didn’t choose a side this time.
Acting U.S. Ambassador to the UN, Dorothy Shea, said, “This resolution puts us on the path to peace. It is a first step, but a crucial one β one of which we should all be proud.” π
Even Russia’s Ambassador to the UN, Vassily Nebenzia, said the resolution is “a starting point for future efforts towards a peaceful settlement.” That means they are willing to work towards peace too! π
It’s really important when countries come together to solve problems. Just like when we make up with friends after a disagreement, nations need to talk things out to make the world a better place. Let’s hope this leads to lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine! β¨
