Spring is Coming! 🌱
Have you ever noticed how the weather starts to change around mid-February? In China, this special time is called Rain Water (or Yushui in Chinese), and it’s the second of the 24 solar terms in the traditional Chinese calendar.
What is Rain Water? ☔
Rain Water usually lasts from mid-February to early March. During this time, the temperature begins to rise, ice and snow start to melt, and there’s more rain—just like the name suggests! It’s a sign that winter is ending and spring is on its way.
Nature Wakes Up 🌸
According to ancient Chinese wisdom, Rain Water is when:
- Ice starts to melt on rivers and lakes.
- Otters begin to fish again.
- Wild geese fly back north after winter.
- Tiny buds sprout from the trees.
Isn’t it amazing how nature knows it’s time to wake up?
Feeling Sleepy? 😴
You might feel a bit tired during this time—it’s called “spring fatigue.” Don’t worry, it’s normal! Try to balance schoolwork with rest, and maybe do some light exercises like walking, jogging, or even practicing Tai Chi to stay energized.
Eat Well, Feel Great 🥕
During Rain Water, Traditional Chinese Medicine suggests eating fresh vegetables and avoiding very spicy or cold foods. Foods like carrots, bamboo shoots, yams, and white fungus are especially good for you now. They help keep your body happy and healthy!
Remember to Stay Warm 🧣
Even though it’s getting warmer, the weather can still be chilly, especially in northern China. There’s a saying called “chun wu,” which means “spring covering.” It reminds us to keep wearing warm clothes, so we don’t catch a cold.
Embrace the Spring! 🌷
Rain Water is a wonderful time to appreciate how the world around us changes. Next time you go outside, see if you can spot any signs of spring. Maybe you’ll see birds returning, flowers starting to bloom, or feel the sun a little warmer on your face!
