Adel’s Joyful Lantern Festival Adventure in China

Hey everyone! Have you ever heard of the Lantern Festival? 🎉 It’s a super fun and colorful celebration in China that marks the end of the Chinese New Year festivities. This year, on February 12, people all over China enjoyed this festival, which has been around for more than 2,000 years! That’s really old, isn’t it?

Meet Adel 👋. She’s an international student from Kyrgyzstan, a country in Central Asia, and she’s studying at the School of Social Sciences at Tsinghua University in China. Adel had an amazing time celebrating the Lantern Festival, and she wants to share her experience with us!

“I really love the Lantern Festival because of its joyful and festive atmosphere,” Adel says with a big smile 😊. During the festival, people light up colorful lanterns 🏮, solve riddles, and enjoy yummy treats like yuanxiao or tangyuan, which are sweet rice balls filled with delicious fillings like sesame or red bean paste.

Adel was amazed by all the sparkling lanterns lighting up the night sky ✨. “It felt like the whole city was glowing! It’s so beautiful and magical,” she exclaimed. She even got to try writing her own wishes on a lantern and watched it float away into the sky. How cool is that?

Not only did Adel enjoy the Chinese traditions, but she also shared stories about the festivals in Kyrgyzstan. In her country, they celebrate Nowruz, which is the Persian New Year celebrated on March 21. It’s a time of hope and renewal, just like the Lantern Festival! People in Kyrgyzstan also enjoy special foods and spend time with family and friends during their festivals.

“I think it’s amazing how festivals around the world can be so different, yet they bring people together in similar ways,” Adel said. “Celebrating the Lantern Festival in China helped me learn more about Chinese culture and make new friends.”

Isn’t it awesome to learn about different cultures and their traditions? Maybe one day, you’ll get to experience a festival in another country too! 🌏 Until then, keep exploring and learning new things every day!
