We spoke with Sarah Lewis, the former Secretary General of the International Ski Federation (FIS), and she shared why these games are so special. “The Asian Winter Games are a fantastic showcase of winter sports talents from all across Asia,” she said. “They feature a mix of countries like China, Japan, and Korea, and also some new countries getting into winter sports from Central and South Asia.”

Did you know that before hosting the Winter Olympics in 2022, China had a super ambitious goal? They wanted to get 300 million people involved in winter sports! And guess what? They didn’t just meet that goal—they beat it! Over 346 million people in China tried winter sports between 2015 and 2022.
“That was one of the amazing positives from hosting the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing,” Sarah Lewis said. “Everyone in China worked together to make it happen, and their efforts in winter sports have been remarkable.”
