Guess what? U.S. President Donald Trump wants to meet with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin really soon! 😊 He hopes that by talking face-to-face, they can find a way to end the conflict in Ukraine. Isn’t that amazing?
On Thursday, President Trump spoke to the World Economic Forum in Davos through a video link. He said, “I really would like to be able to meet with President Putin soon to get that war ended.”
Later, talking to reporters at the White House, he added, “From what I hear, Putin would like to see me, and we’ll leave as soon as we can. I’d meet immediately.” He also mentioned that Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is ready to make a deal to end the crisis. 🤝
Meanwhile, President Putin said that Russia is open to talking with the new U.S. administration about the situation in Ukraine. He emphasized the importance of finding and fixing the root causes of the conflict.
Earlier this week, President Trump warned that he might impose strong sanctions on Russia if they don’t reach an agreement. Sanctions are like penalties that countries use to encourage others to change their actions.
But that’s not all! President Trump also wants to work towards reducing nuclear weapons. He said, “We’d like to see denuclearization… And I will tell you President Putin really liked the idea of cutting way back on nuclear.” 🌐☮️
Did you know? The U.S. and Russia have a treaty called the New START, which is an agreement to limit the number of nuclear weapons each country has. Even though Russia suspended its participation last year, both countries are still following the limits set by the treaty. Let’s hope they can work together to make the world a safer place!
