Over 1 Million People in Haiti Forced from Their Homes in 2024
Hey everyone! Have you heard about what’s happening in Haiti? 🇭🇹 It’s a country in the Caribbean where many people are facing big challenges.
In 2024, more than 1 million people had to leave their homes. That’s like if all the people in a huge city had to move! 😲 The United Nations (UN) says this happened because of gang violence. That means groups are fighting and making places unsafe.
Most of these families lived in Haiti’s capital city, called Port-au-Prince. Many of them are kids just like you. Imagine having to leave your home and school because it’s not safe anymore. 😔
To make things even harder, there were big floods that affected over 315,000 people! 🌧️ Homes were damaged, and families lost their belongings.
Lots of people are staying with friends or relatives, but it’s crowded, and there’s not enough food or clean water. Others are struggling to find anywhere to go. 💔
The good news is that the UN and other groups are helping! The World Food Program gave food to 1.7 million people, and even provided school meals! 🍎 The International Organization for Migration gave out 18 million liters of clean water to people who needed it. 💧
Amy Pope, who works with the UN, said, “Haiti needs sustained humanitarian assistance right now to save and protect lives.” She wants everyone to work together to help Haiti get better.
Next year, the UN says they’ll need $900 million to support 4 million people in Haiti. That’s a lot, but it’s important to help those in need. 💪
You can help too by learning more about Haiti and sharing this information with others. Every little bit counts! Let’s spread the word and make a difference! 🌟
