Chinese Mainland Tennis Stars Shine at Australian Open! ๐ŸŽพ

The Australian Open is one of the biggest tennis tournaments in the world, and this year, 11 amazing players from the Chinese mainland competed in the singles matches! ๐ŸŒŸ

Guess what? Four of them made it to the second round! Let’s meet these fantastic players:

Zheng Qinwen

Zheng Qinwen, who was the fifth seed, had an exciting match against Romania’s Anca Todoni. She won 7-6(3), 6-1! The first set was tough and lasted 75 minutes, but Zheng fought hard and finished strong in the second set. ๐ŸŽ‰

Zhang Shuai

At 35 years old, Zhang Shuai is a veteran player. She entered the tournament as a wildcard and defeated McCartney Kessler from the USA with a score of 6-3, 6-4. This was her first Grand Slam win in two years! ๐Ÿ†

Wang Xiyu

Wang Xiyu showed great determination by winning against Austria’s Julia Grabher 6-1, 7-5. This was her first victory at the famous Rod Laver Arena in three years! ๐Ÿ™Œ

Wang Yafan

Wang Yafan had an impressive comeback! She lost the first set but didn’t give up. She beat Hungary’s Anna Bondar 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 and reached the second round for the second year in a row! ๐Ÿฅณ

Unfortunately, seven other players from the Chinese mainland didn’t make it past the first round, but they all played hard and gave it their best! ๐Ÿ’ช

Men’s Singles

On the men’s side, there were three players from the Chinese mainland. Although they didn’t make it to the second round, they played some awesome matches:

  • Zhang Zhizhen battled against Holger Rune of Denmark in a thrilling five-set match!
  • Shang Juncheng had to withdraw due to a foot injury during his match with Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
  • Buyunchaokete competed against Hady Habib from Lebanon.
