Discover the Hidden Beauty of Snowflakes Under a Microscope! ❄️🔬
Have you ever caught a snowflake on your glove and wondered what it looks like up close? ❄️ Zhang Chao, a scientist at the National Astronomical Observatories of China, does just that—but with a microscope!
Zhang started taking pictures of snowflakes way back in 2005. At first, he used a regular camera. But between 2007 and 2008, he began using a microscope—a special tool that makes tiny things look much bigger—to see snowflakes up close and capture their amazing details.
“I just want to collect different kinds of snowflakes,” Zhang says. And he’s done a great job! Did you know there are 121 different types of snowflakes? Zhang has photographed over 80 of them!
Once, he even found colored snowflakes, which are super rare! 🌈❄️ How cool is that?
Zhang believes that snowflakes have two kinds of beauty when you look really close: they are both very consistent and completely random at the same time. Each snowflake has a perfect shape, but no two are exactly alike!
He says he’ll never stop photographing snowflakes. Who knows what amazing patterns he’ll find next?
Fun Fact: Every snowflake is unique! That means no two snowflakes are exactly the same.
Next time it snows, try catching a snowflake and see if you can spot its unique design! Just remember—they melt fast! ☃️
