After more than two years without a leader, the people of Lebanon can celebrate. Joseph Aoun, the chief of the army, was elected as the new president by the country’s lawmakers on Thursday.
In a big meeting called a “parliament session,” 128 members came together to vote. In the first round, Joseph Aoun didn’t get enough votes to win. But in the second round, he got 99 votes, which was more than enough! 🗳️
This is exciting news for Lebanon, a beautiful country by the Mediterranean Sea. Lebanon has been without a president since October 2022, and now they finally have one to help lead the country.
