Big Earthquakes Shake Russia’s Coast!
Hey everyone! 🌊 Today, some really big earthquakes happened near Russia’s east coast, in a place called the Kamchatka Peninsula. The first earthquake was super strong, measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale! That’s a special scale scientists use to figure out how powerful earthquakes are.
But wait, there’s more! Another even bigger earthquake happened right after, and it measured 7.2! 😱 These earthquakes were deep under the Pacific Ocean, about 10 kilometers down. That’s like stacking over 3,000 school buses on top of each other!
Because of these big shakes, a tsunami alert was given. A tsunami is a giant wave that can happen after an earthquake under the sea. The U.S. Geological Survey warned that these huge waves could happen within 300 kilometers of where the earthquakes started.
People living near the coast of Kamchatka, especially in the city called Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (that’s a mouthful! 😄), are being extra careful and staying safe. If you’re ever near the ocean and hear about a tsunami alert, it’s really important to listen to adults and follow safety instructions.
Let’s send good thoughts to everyone there and hope they stay safe! 💙 Remember, staying informed helps us all understand our amazing and sometimes surprising planet!
