Hey everyone! ๐ We have some sad news from Iraq. A big fire happened in a shopping mall called ‘Corniche Hypermarket’ in the city of Kut. The fire started on Wednesday night and was very serious.
At least 69 people lost their lives, and 11 people are still missing. Over 45 people were rescued by brave firefighters who worked hard to save them.
The mall had only been open for seven days before this terrible event happened. Iraq’s Prime Minister, Mr. Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, has asked for an investigation to find out why this happened. He also sent medical teams to help those who were hurt.
The governor, Mr. Mohammed Jameel al-Maihy, announced three days of mourning to remember the people who died. He promised to find out what caused the fire and share the results with everyone soon.
Sadly, fires like this have happened before in Iraq. Earlier this year, more than 100 people died in a fire at a wedding hall. It’s important for buildings to have good safety systems to protect people.
Please take a moment to think of those affected by this tragedy.
