Google and XREAL Team Up for Awesome New Smart Glasses! 🤓✨
Hey everyone! Have you ever wished your glasses could show you cool virtual stuff in the real world? Well, guess what? Google is joining forces with a Chinese startup called XREAL to bring back smart glasses! 🎉
These new glasses, called Project Aura, were first talked about at an event called Google I/O 2025. They were also shown off at the Augmented World Expo 2025 in California, USA. Pretty cool, right?
What Are Smart Glasses?
Smart glasses are like regular glasses, but with superpowers! 🦸♂️ They let you see digital images and information right in front of your eyes, mixed with the real world. This is called Augmented Reality, or AR for short.
What’s Special About Project Aura?
Project Aura uses a special chip designed by XREAL called the X1S silicon chip. This chip helps the glasses process lots of data really fast. It can make the virtual images appear smoothly, so it feels like they are really there!
According to Wu Kejian, the co-founder of XREAL, their chip can reduce something called motion-to-photon latency to just three milliseconds. That’s super fast! It means that when you move your head, the virtual images move with you instantly. 🏃♂️💨
How Do They Work?
To keep the glasses lightweight and comfy, most of the heavy processing is done by a small device you can carry with you. It’s like a little computer that connects to the glasses. This way, the glasses don’t have to be big and bulky. 😊
The glasses can also connect to your smartphone or computer, so you can access all kinds of apps and games. Plus, they will work with Google’s Gemini AI for super smart features!

This project is possible because Google, XREAL, and other companies are working together. Wu said, “We need to work together to make these amazing AR glasses, from the hardware all the way to the apps.”
Why Now?

Zheng Qiang from Longcheer, a company that helps make the glasses, believes that if smart glasses can be as light and stylish as regular glasses, people will start wearing them instead.
