Protesters and National Guard Clash in Los Angeles Over Immigration Raids

πŸ“’ On Sunday, over 200 protesters gathered in downtown Los Angeles to voice their concerns about recent immigration raids in California. Things became tense when they clashed with National Guard troops sent by the government.

One protester said, “We want to protest peacefully. However, the Trump administration just sent soldiers to fight against us. Is it necessary?”

California’s Governor, Gavin Newsom, encouraged everyone to stay calm. He said, “California – Don’t give Donald Trump what he wants. Speak up. Stay peaceful. Stay calm. Do not use violence and respect the law enforcement officers that are trying their best to keep the peace.”

The National Guard is usually used to help in emergencies like natural disasters. This was the first time since 1965 that a president has sent the National Guard to a state without the governor asking. Many people think this is a big deal!

The protests started after agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raided places in Southern California, arresting over 100 people. Many in the community were upset and came out to protest these actions.

President Trump said the troops were there to ensure “very strong law and order.” He said, “You have violent people, and we are not going to let them get away with it.”

But not everyone agreed with this move. Governor Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass thought sending the troops wasn’t necessary. Mayor Bass said, “There was nothing happening in downtown Los Angeles that the police couldn’t handle, so to me, this is completely unnecessary.”

This situation is important because it shows how people are reacting to immigration policies and how the government is responding. It’s always good to stay informed and understand what’s happening in our communities! 🌎
