Karol Nawrocki, who wasn’t expected to win, has just become the new president of Poland! 🏆 He won the presidential election in a very close race.
Karol is a historian, which means he studies history 📚, and he was the head of Poland’s Institute of National Remembrance. This was his first time running for president, and it was a tough journey from the start.
He was up against Rafal Trzaskowski, the mayor of Warsaw, which is the capital city of Poland. 🏙️ Everyone thought Rafal would win because he was leading in the polls. But when the votes were counted, Karol had 50.89% of the votes, just a little more than Rafal’s 49.11%!
Born in 1983 in the city of Gdansk, Karol is now going to be the new leader of Poland after the current president, Andrzej Duda, finishes his term on August 6.
