Hey everyone! Did you hear about the big news from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (the DPRK)? They’re looking into an accident that happened with one of their warships at the Chongjin Shipyard.
So, what happened? On Wednesday, there was a serious accident when they were launching a destroyer (that’s a type of warship). The DPRK’s official news agency, KCNA, reported on Friday that a special team started a full investigation.
The investigation team includes experts and officials from the public prosecutors’ office. They checked the ship underwater and inside to find out what went wrong.
Good news! They found out there were no holes in the bottom of the ship like they first thought. Instead, the right side (called the starboard side) was scratched. Some seawater got into the back part of the ship through a rescue channel.
The experts think it will take about 2 or 3 days to pump out the water and balance the ship. Then, they can move the front of the ship off the slipway (that’s where ships are launched). It might take around 10 more days to fix the side of the ship.
It’s a big job, but they’re working hard to fix the warship! Isn’t it interesting how ships are repaired? π’
