What Happened?
On Saturday night, the Cuauhtémoc, which is a training ship decorated with lights and a giant Mexican flag, was sailing on the East River. As it approached the Brooklyn Bridge, its tall masts couldn’t fit under the bridge at that point. The masts hit the bridge and toppled over. 🚢🚧

Sadly, two people lost their lives, and many others were injured in the accident. 💔 A total of 19 people were hurt, and some were taken to the hospital. The people on the ship were naval cadets, who are like students learning to be sailors. They were wearing white uniforms and were on the ship when it crashed.
What About the Bridge?
The Brooklyn Bridge is a very important and old bridge in New York City. It connects the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn. It was built way back in 1883! Thankfully, the bridge didn’t have major damage, and it was reopened after being inspected. 🚗🌉
Why Did This Happen?
Officials think there might have been mechanical issues with the ship, but they are still investigating to find out exactly what went wrong. 🔍
What’s Next?
The ship was supposed to leave New York and head to Iceland. The Mexican officials are helping the people affected by the accident and are working with local authorities.
